President Bola Tinubu has been chastised for appointing Adebisi Shonubi as acting Governor of Nigeria's Central Bank, CBN.
According to Deji Adeyanju, a socio-political activist, Tinubu's appointment of Shonubi as acting CBN governor is a disappointment.
Tinubu appointed Shonubi as acting governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria following the suspension of Godwin Emefiele.
Adeyanju, on the other hand, said Tinubu's decision to appoint Shonubi, a mechanical engineer, could lead to Nigeria's failure.
"While I commend President Bola Tinubu for suspending Emefiele, I am deeply disappointed that he has appointed Shonubi, a mechanical engineer, as Acting Governor of the Apex Bank," Adeyanju wrote on Facebook.
"Kenya has just appointed a PhD economist as its CBN Governor." Turkey has recently followed suit.
"While we continue to argue that the FG should stop appointing bankers as CBN Governors because they have no knowledge of fiscal policies or how to run an economy, the new president appoints a mechanical engineer as Acting CBN Governor." This is why countries fail."
